A person who laced treats with tranquilliser and provided them to minors at a youth camp in the area has admitted sexual offenses against two children who were nine and 10.
Jon Ruben was arrested after eight youngsters and an older person experienced illness at the location in the summer month.
The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the courthouse on Friday.
However, he disputed one particular crime he was accused of, which was concerning a young boy.
Ruben was kept in jail before a subsequent court date on late November.
'Treat game'
The prosecutor, presenting evidence, detailed the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.
She stated his victims were under-privileged children who were staying at a youth camp which he ran.
The defendant engaged in a "treat game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor explained, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to eat sweets "as fast as possible".
She informed the proceedings Ruben had engaged in this activity with the young males "for many years", and minors had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.
She said the defendant had been able to explain this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had worries in summer 2025.
The prosecutor continued: "Recently" his stepchild had worries about the activities, for good reason.
"They decided to examine in the individual's items."
Mrs Prior KC explained materials including baby oil, ointment and syringes were located, and his stepson contacted the authorities about his worries.
She said the man went on to engage in the "sweet game" with six boys that evening - that Saturday - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"Authorities" had not responded by that point," she continued.
The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was reviewing the police response of the situation.
The legal representative explained the minors were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so the stepson contacted the authorities a second time.
She explained the man then played the "treat game" in a room of five youngsters.
