Hurricane the storm is projected to strengthen into a rare category five storm as it veers toward the Caribbean island, causing life-threatening flash flooding and mudslides.
This weather system, which registered winds of up to 120 miles per hour as of 6:00 AM GMT, is currently turning north-west in the Caribbean Sea and is anticipated to reach land by early next week, based on data from weather experts.
Advisories of electricity outages and disruption to utilities have been issued as Melissa generates up to 30 inches of rain and coastal flooding as high as thirteen feet above typical tides. "Find safe refuge immediately," locals have been advised.
Melissa is the thirteenth hurricane in the current Atlantic hurricane season, which typically ends in the eleventh month.

A highest-level storm is the most powerful category, with sustained winds of at least 157mph.
